About this home
Modern Elegance is the kind of contemporary home that works hard to look effortless. The owners wanted a house with a clean, current vocabulary (big glass, low-slung rooflines, refined detailing) without the coldness that modern homes in the mountains sometimes fall into. The result is a home that reads modern from the drive and warm from the threshold.
The plan
The main level is organized as a long, loose volume that steps with the slope of the lot. A great room anchors the center, with the kitchen and dining open to one side and a primary suite tucked quietly at the other end. Floor-to-ceiling windows run the long face of the home, pulling the view into every daily room. A lower level holds guest rooms, a family room, and walkout access to a covered outdoor living space.
Details worth calling out
- Glass, considered. Large openings are paired with deep overhangs so the home stays comfortable in every season. No afternoon glare in July, no cold floors in January.
- Honest materials at scale. Board-form concrete, full-bed stone, and wide-plank white oak floors that age into the home rather than against it.
- A kitchen that earns its geometry. A single clean island, integrated appliances, and a walk-in pantry that takes every practical demand off the main surfaces.
- Mechanical systems that disappear. Radiant floors, a right-sized HVAC design, and acoustic separation between the primary suite and the rest of the house.
What we learned
Modern homes reveal every shortcut. We spent unusual time in pre-construction mocking up details at full scale (reveals, window-to-stone returns, ceiling-to-wall transitions) so the finish crews had something to build to rather than something to interpret. The rigor shows up in the reveals that still read tight years later.
After handoff
Modern Elegance is on our property care program. Contemporary homes have their own maintenance rhythm (sealant schedules, glass cleaning, mechanical tune-ups) and we keep it on the calendar so the owners don't have to.
